What's Happening?
Wisconsin is set to issue its first Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licenses in September, following the signing of the 2025 Wisconsin Act 17 by Governor Tony Evers. The new licenses will replace the current Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber
(APNP) credentials and will include recognized roles such as Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. The Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) is finalizing the necessary rules and processes to facilitate this transition, aiming to modernize nursing laws and expand healthcare access across the state.
