What's Happening?
The Nature Positive Tourism Partnership, comprising the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), UN Tourism, and the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, has announced a new webinar series aimed at promoting
sustainable travel practices. The series, titled 'Nature Positive Tourism Explained,' seeks to address key challenges in adopting a nature-positive approach within the travel and tourism sector. The initiative aims to provide businesses with the knowledge and tools necessary to support nature conservation efforts effectively. The series will cover topics such as identifying priority action areas, aligning operations with biodiversity issues, and forming effective partnerships to drive meaningful change. The first webinar, 'Regenerating Destinations Through Nature Positive Tourism,' is scheduled for November 19, 2025, and will be hosted by the WTTC.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is significant as it addresses the growing need for sustainable practices in the travel and tourism industry, which is a major contributor to global economic activity. By focusing on nature-positive tourism, the partnership aims to mitigate the environmental impact of tourism and promote conservation efforts. This approach not only benefits the environment but also enhances the long-term viability of tourism destinations by preserving their natural resources. Businesses that adopt these practices can improve their reputation and appeal to environmentally conscious travelers, potentially leading to increased revenue and customer loyalty. The series also highlights the importance of collaboration between businesses, governments, and conservation organizations to achieve sustainable tourism goals.
What's Next?
Following the initial webinar, the series will continue with sessions on monitoring and disclosing nature-related risks and impacts, and reducing environmental impact through supply chain collaboration. These sessions, scheduled for January and March 2026, respectively, will be hosted by UN Tourism and the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance. The series is expected to foster greater awareness and implementation of sustainable practices across the industry. Stakeholders, including tourism businesses, policymakers, and conservation groups, are likely to engage in discussions and collaborations to further these goals. The outcomes of these webinars could influence future policies and industry standards related to sustainable tourism.
