What's Happening?
Michigan Gas Utilities (MGU) has announced the launch of its 'ambassadog' contest, inviting dog owners to nominate their pets to become the face of a safe digging awareness campaign. Participants are encouraged to submit photos of their dogs digging or
in their favorite digging spots by April 6. The contest aims to promote the importance of calling 811 before any digging projects to prevent accidents involving underground utilities. Last year's winner, Bandit from Benton Harbor, successfully helped spread the safety message across southern and western Michigan. The campaign emphasizes the legal requirement to call 811 at least three days before digging, ensuring public safety and preventing utility damage.
Why It's Important?
The 'ambassadog' contest serves as a creative and engaging way to raise public awareness about the critical safety practice of calling 811 before digging. By involving pet owners and their dogs, MGU is leveraging community involvement to spread an important safety message. This initiative not only helps prevent potentially dangerous accidents but also fosters a sense of community participation and responsibility. The campaign underscores the importance of public education in maintaining infrastructure safety and highlights the role of utility companies in promoting safe practices.
