Governor Kathy Hochul has announced an additional $4 million in state funding to support the restoration of Prospect Park Lake in Brooklyn. This investment is part of a larger $25 million restoration project, which also includes a $1 million allocation
from State Senator Zellnor Myrie. The funding aims to improve water quality, enhance resilience against flooding and major storms, provide safe, ADA-compliant access for residents and park visitors, and create a better habitat for wildlife. The project will complete the final phases of the Lakeshore Restoration Master Plan, addressing stormwater issues by reducing paved areas, capturing runoff, and reconstructing the bridle trail with new stormwater management infrastructure. The plan also includes replacing asphalt with rain gardens and installing new site furniture and dark-sky friendly light poles.
