Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has confirmed the presence of non-native brown trout in Ashley Lake and Church Slough in Flathead County. These trout pose a threat to native species like bull trout and westslope cutthroat trout by outcompeting them for
resources and preying on juvenile fish. The agency has urged anglers to kill any brown trout caught and report them to the Fish, Wildlife and Parks office in Kalispell. Moving live fish between water bodies is illegal in Montana, and the agency is seeking public assistance in identifying those responsible for such activities.
