The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared the PrecivityAD2 test, a new blood biomarker test designed for adults aged 40 and older who are experiencing signs or symptoms of cognitive impairment and are undergoing evaluation for Alzheimer's
disease or other forms of cognitive decline. This test utilizes high-resolution mass spectrometry to quantitatively measure protein biomarkers. It is intended to be used in conjunction with a comprehensive clinical assessment and is not meant as a standalone screening or diagnostic tool. The FDA's clearance is based on a trial involving 1,142 adults with cognitive decline symptoms. The study demonstrated that PrecivityAD2 offers comparable accuracy to established methods such as cerebrospinal fluid tests and brain scans for detecting amyloid plaques, which are a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. The test showed a 97.6% positive predictive value (rule-in) for a positive result and a 93.1% negative predictive value (rule-out) for a negative result, based on reference methods like amyloid positron emission tomography visual read or cerebrospinal fluid biomarker testing.
