What's Happening?
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs), is establishing a roster of Green Digital Transformation Consultants. These consultants will support projects
aimed at advancing a net-zero ICT sector globally. The role is home-based and remote worldwide, with a closing date for applications on December 31, 2026. Consultants will be remunerated between US$185 and US$360 per day. The ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) coordinates these efforts, focusing on development policies, strategies, programs, and technical cooperation activities to ensure universal access to affordable, high-quality, and secure telecommunications and ICTs. The Climate Change and Emergency Telecommunications Division is specifically building this roster to implement ITU’s green digital transformation projects, which assist Member States in tracking greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy use from the digital sector, providing capacity building and training.

As digital technologies become more pervasive, their energy consumption and carbon footprint are significant. What's Next?
Successful applicants will form part of a roster from which consultants will be engaged for specific green digital transformation activities. These activities will include organizing and facilitating stakeholder workshops to strengthen the capacity of ICT regulators and national stakeholders in collecting and reporting environmental indicators. Consultants will also develop draft digital net-zero transition plans, support the upkeep of a data visualization dashboard for tracking the digital sector’s climate footprint, and conduct national needs assessments. Further responsibilities involve research on digital company GHG emissions, energy use, and climate commitments, as well as supporting work on climate-resilient digital infrastructure and preparing technical content for online learning through the ITU Academy. The duration of individual consultancy assignments will be determined by project requirements.
