What's Happening?
Jofreth Quesada, known as 'Gato,' has been a pivotal figure in the annual service trip to Sámara, Costa Rica, organized by M-A's Service Learning teacher Andrew Stuart. For six years, Quesada has facilitated the trip, helping students engage in community service projects such as painting schools and interacting with local children. His involvement began when he was introduced to Jesse Friedman, a tour company owner, which led to his collaboration with Stuart in 2019. Quesada, who grew up in Sámara, is deeply connected to his community, often referred to as the 'mayor' due to his efforts to support local residents. Despite the area's economic challenges, Quesada remains committed to improving conditions and fostering educational opportunities, such as teaching English to local students.
