Bath Iron Works (BIW), in collaboration with Developers Collaborative, has commenced the construction of three apartment buildings aimed at providing affordable housing for shipyard workers in Bath, Maine.
The project, located at 150 Congress Ave., will feature 84 units, including studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments. This initiative is part of BIW's strategy to attract and retain its workforce by offering housing within walking or biking distance of the shipyard. The development, which has been in planning for several years, is a significant step by BIW and its parent company, General Dynamics, to address the housing challenges faced by their employees. The project is funded by General Dynamics and the Navy, with additional financing from Developers Collaborative. The apartments will be priced below market rate to ensure affordability for entry-level shipyard workers.
