On November 15, 1988, the Soviet space shuttle Buran completed its first and only orbital flight. Launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Buran orbited the Earth twice before executing an automatic landing on a Kazakh runway. The mission, lasting 206 minutes,
was notable for its precision landing in challenging weather conditions, with the shuttle stopping just three meters from the runway centerline. Despite its successful demonstration of automatic landing capabilities, the Buran program was canceled due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union and financial constraints. The shuttle was destroyed in 2002 when the roof of its hangar collapsed.
