What's Happening?
Wicomico County is reintroducing its Summerfest series, a free family event initiative, as announced by the community. The events are scheduled to occur on Thursdays from 5-8 p.m., beginning June 25. The first event will take place at Lake Street Playground
in Salisbury, featuring a field day theme. Subsequent events are planned for July 9 at Billy Gene Jackson Sr. Park with an arts focus, July 23 at Doverdale Playground for a game night, and August 6 at Indian Village Playground with a water world theme. The series aims to provide families with an opportunity to enjoy local parks, offering free food, music, kid-friendly games, and community vendor interactions, according to Recreational Specialist Randy McFadden.
Why It's Important?
The revival of Summerfest is significant as it promotes community engagement and provides a platform for families to enjoy recreational activities in Wicomico County's parks. This initiative supports local community building and offers a safe, inclusive environment for families to gather and participate in various activities. By offering free events, the county ensures accessibility for all residents, fostering a sense of community and belonging. Additionally, these events can stimulate local economic activity by attracting visitors to the area, benefiting local vendors and businesses involved in the events.
What's Next?
As the Summerfest series progresses, community members can anticipate a variety of themed events that cater to different interests and age groups. The county's Recreation & Parks department will likely continue to promote these events to maximize participation and community involvement. Feedback from attendees may influence future event planning, potentially expanding the series or introducing new themes based on community interest. The success of these events could lead to more frequent or larger-scale community gatherings in the future.
