What's Happening?
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking an IMEO Atmospheric Scientist consultant to support its International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) in reducing methane emissions from the coal sector. This remote, 12-month consultancy
involves providing data analysis and manuscript writing for methane science studies projects. Key services include calculating inventory estimates for coal mine methane sources, supporting the development of a coal Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) framework, and creating a strategy for a global study on abandoned mine methane. The consultant will assess existing MRV approaches, identify improvements, and develop collaborative strategies involving academic, industry, and government perspectives. The role requires a Doctorate or equivalent in Engineering or Atmospheric Science and at least three years of experience in the field, with demonstrated expertise in emission inventory calculations for greenhouse gas sources.
