What's Happening?
At the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw, Poland, over 2,000 volunteers are assisting scientists in restoring the skeleton of a Mastodonsaurus, a large amphibian from the Middle Triassic period. The restoration project involves meticulous work to separate
the bones from surrounding rock using pneumatic chisels and ultraviolet light. The Mastodonsaurus, an aquatic predator, lived around 240 million years ago and could grow up to 20 feet long. The project, led by paleontologists Tomasz Sulej and Wojciech Pawlak, aims to exhibit the skeleton, which is the largest of its kind, later this year. Volunteers from various backgrounds are participating, gaining a unique experience in paleontological restoration.
