Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS) announced that Olathe's New Century AirCenter will receive over $13.2 million in federal funding for runway reconstruction. The U.S. Department of Transportation, through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport
Infrastructure Grant program, awarded the funds to the Johnson County Airport Commission. This grant is a direct result of the bipartisan federal infrastructure law, which Representative Davids supported. The funding is earmarked for critical airfield updates outlined in the Johnson County Airport Commission’s master plan. These updates include the full reconstruction of over 7,000 feet of Runway 18-36, the complete reconstruction of aging airfield lighting, and the replacement of outdated airfield signage.
