Two skiers from Germany were rescued after they became stranded on a floe while attempting to ski across a frozen lake separating Finland and Sweden. The ice around them broke, causing them to lose most of their equipment. In a bid to attract attention,
they used ice blocks to spell out 'SOS'. Finnish border guards received a distress call and dispatched a search plane and hovercraft, rescuing the skiers five hours later. Despite the ordeal, the skiers were unharmed.
