What's Happening?
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $4.23 million grant to support the second phase of a project aimed at integrating natural capital into development financing across 13 African countries, including Kenya. This initiative is designed to help
these countries recognize the economic value of their natural resources and incorporate this understanding into policy and investment decisions. The project, running from October 2026 to September 2029, will focus on improving policy frameworks, statistical systems, institutional capacity, and knowledge generation. It aims to enable participating countries to assess their natural wealth and use this information in public decision-making. The initiative will also provide technical assistance, biodiversity financing tools, and capacity building, with support from partner institutions such as the World Wildlife Fund and the United Nations Environment Programme.
