Project Sales Director at PrimeServ Denmark, emphasized the need for large-scale engine conversions alongside the adoption of Zero-Emission Newbuilds (ZNZ) to meet these targets. Everllence's analysis suggests that even with full ZNZ adoption by 2030, 50 gigawatts of existing two-stroke power must be converted by 2050. This conversion involves approximately 2,000 large vessels, such as containerships and tankers. The current uncertainty around IMO regulations has led shipowners to delay investments, opting for interim efficiency upgrades instead of full conversions.
