A vehicle carrier named Autosun, operated by United European Car Carriers (UECC), successfully rescued four individuals from a sailboat in distress during a storm in the Bay of Biscay. The sailboat had
begun taking on water, prompting a mayday call. The Autosun, a 6,670 dwt RoRo vessel with a capacity of 2,080 vehicles, was navigating through strong northerly winds and high swells when it coordinated with Spanish and French maritime rescue coordination centers to execute the rescue. The crew of the Autosun activated emergency protocols, including a man overboard signal and general alarm, to prepare for the operation. They used a pilot door and ladder to bring the individuals aboard safely. A French rescue helicopter later airlifted the rescued individuals to shore.
