What's Happening?
The NSF STELLAR Engine, based in the Rochester/Finger Lakes Region of New York, is working to enhance the U.S. leadership in laser technologies and manufacturing. This initiative addresses the fragmentation in the U.S. laser ecosystem, which affects the transition
of breakthroughs from laboratory to market and limits domestic manufacturing scale. The STELLAR Engine integrates research and development, translation of research to impact, and education and workforce development. Key partners include the University of Rochester’s Institute of Optics, Monroe Community College, and Rochester Institute of Technology, among others. The initiative aims to create a coordinated innovation network to accelerate the development and commercialization of next-generation laser technologies.
