What's Happening?
FamilyWell Health, an integrated women's mental health company, has successfully raised $8 million in Series A funding. The investment was led by New Markets Venture Partners, with participation from .406
Ventures, GreyMatter Capital, The Alix Foundation, The Donna Fund, and The Lee Foundation. This funding aims to accelerate the national expansion of FamilyWell's maternal mental health model and extend its services into perimenopause and menopause care. Founded in 2022 by Dr. Jessica Gaulton, FamilyWell Health embeds virtual women's mental health services directly into clinics and health systems. The company has demonstrated effectiveness, with 70% of patients achieving clinical remission within four months and patients being connected to care within 24 hours. The expansion will focus on scaling its perinatal mental health model nationwide and integrating menopause care, addressing the mental health needs of over 50 million U.S. women in perimenopause.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of FamilyWell Health's services is crucial in addressing the underserved area of women's mental health, particularly during perimenopause and menopause. Suicide is a leading cause of maternal death during pregnancy and postpartum, highlighting the urgent need for effective mental health care. Despite recommendations for universal screening, a significant gap exists, with fewer than 10% of Medicaid members and fewer than 4% of privately insured patients screened for postpartum depression. The funding will help bridge this gap by expanding access to integrated mental health care, potentially reducing untreated cases and improving outcomes for women. The initiative also aims to train the next generation of providers through the FamilyWell Academy, addressing the provider workforce gap and ensuring the delivery of evidence-based, compassionate care.
What's Next?
FamilyWell Health plans to scale its maternal mental health model nationwide through partnerships with health systems, clinics, and payers. The company currently covers over 200,000 lives across five states and aims to expand its reach further. Additionally, the integration of menopause care will be accelerated, supporting women through perimenopause and menopause. The FamilyWell Academy will play a key role in training providers, offering certification programs in Perinatal Behavioral Health and Peri/Menopause Behavioral Health. These efforts will help close the provider workforce gap and ensure high-quality care delivery.
