NASA is advancing lunar exploration with the development of ECLIPSE, an Efficient variable Conductivity Lunar Insulator for Passive Surveyor Environmental control. This innovative thermal management solution is designed to support small, mobile systems
operating on the lunar surface. ECLIPSE utilizes a Variable Thermal Conductivity Metamaterial (VTCM) that passively regulates thermal energy flow, enabling devices to withstand extreme lunar temperatures without external power sources. The metamaterial's design allows for adjustable thermal conductivity based on temperature changes, enhancing the survivability and functionality of lunar surveyors.
