What's Happening?
Sellafield Ltd has announced the appointment of three firms to undertake up to £2.9 billion worth of non-nuclear infrastructure projects at its site in west Cumbria. The selected companies, Costain, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, and Hochtief (UK) Construction Ltd, will operate under the Infrastructure Delivery Partnership (IDP), which replaces the previous Infrastructure Strategic Alliance. This partnership is set to last initially for nine years, with an option to extend by six years, supporting Sellafield's nuclear decommissioning and waste management efforts. Each firm will handle specific tasks: Costain will manage utilities upgrades, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure will oversee electrical distribution, and Hochtief will handle civil works including bridges and roads. The IDP was first advertised in February 2023, with a total estimated value of £3.44 billion across four lots.
