A class action lawsuit has been initiated in Monongalia County Circuit Court against West Virginia University Hospitals Inc. and West Virginia United Health System Inc. The lawsuit was filed on September 1 by an individual identified as P.J.P., on behalf
of herself and other employees who were unknowingly recorded by hidden cameras in non-public staff restrooms at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. The discovery of a digital recording device beneath a sink in a staff restroom on June 26 led to a police investigation. Law enforcement identified physician Lance Parks as the individual who placed the device, which contained video footage of eight hospital employees partially nude. A second device was later found in another staff restroom. Parks was terminated and faces eight misdemeanor counts of criminal invasion of privacy and one felony count of distribution and exhibiting computer-generated child pornography.
