What's Happening?
IHG Hotels & Resorts announces the signing of Crowne Plaza Phnom Penh in partnership with Continent Crown Investment Management Co., Ltd. Integrated within CG Fortune Center, a mixed-use development, the 276-room
property will rebrand in two phases following its conversion from VM Hotel. Crowne Plaza Phnom Penh will open with 137 refurbished rooms and suites by the end of this year, with a new extension wing ready by 2027, increasing guest room and meeting space inventories.
Why It's Important?
The opening of Crowne Plaza Phnom Penh is part of IHG's strategy to expand its presence in Southeast Asia, where conversions represented more than a third of its signings and about a quarter of its openings in the first half of 2025. This expansion is significant for the hospitality industry, as it highlights the potential for growth in Southeast Asia's tourism sector and the increasing demand for high-quality accommodations in key cities. The hotel's location in the Pou Senchey district, an industrial hub, makes it a strategic site for business travelers.
What's Next?
Crowne Plaza Phnom Penh will join IHG's growing estate in Cambodia, comprising one open hotel, Six Senses Krabey Island, and three pipeline properties. The phased rebranding and expansion of the hotel are expected to increase both guest room capacity and meeting space availability, catering to business travelers and tourists alike.
Beyond the Headlines
The opening of Crowne Plaza Phnom Penh may also have implications for local businesses and the economy, as increased tourism can drive economic growth and create job opportunities. Additionally, the hotel's strategic location near the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone may attract business travelers and foster economic development in the region.
