What's Happening?
Northeast High School has been awarded a grant from the Community Foundation of East Mississippi to support its Pathways to College and Career Readiness Initiative. This funding aims to alleviate the costs associated with retaking the ACT WorkKeys exam,
a test that evaluates essential workplace skills. The grant, named after Susan B. Herron, a notable advocate for arts and education, is intended to help students achieve better scores, thereby improving their career readiness. Principal Allyson Butler emphasized the importance of this grant in helping students meet career-readiness benchmarks, which are crucial for obtaining advanced diplomas and recognized credentials by employers.
Why It's Important?
The grant is significant as it addresses financial barriers that can hinder students from improving their workforce credentials. By facilitating access to retesting, the initiative supports students in achieving higher scores on the WorkKeys assessment, which measures skills in areas like workplace documents and applied math. Achieving benchmark scores can lead to credentials that are valued by employers, thus enhancing students' job prospects post-graduation. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to strengthening education and workforce readiness in the region, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the demands of the modern workforce.
