What's Happening?
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is set to modernize its national police check system by consolidating two outdated systems into a single platform. The current systems, the Criminal Records Enquiry
and Disclosure Service (CREADS) and the National Police Check Application Processing System (NAPS), have become obsolete, leading to costly repairs and diminishing returns. The new system, expected to be deployed by October 2026, aims to be more scalable, flexible, secure, and cost-effective. The AFP processes up to one million police checks monthly, generating significant revenue. The transition to the new system will occur in three phases, starting in April 2026, with the old system being decommissioned by March 2027.
