What's Happening?
IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced a management agreement with DC Constructions to develop a 100-room Holiday Inn Express near Bagdogra International Airport in Siliguri, India. The hotel is scheduled
to open in 2028 and is part of IHG's strategy to expand its Holiday Inn Express brand, which currently includes over 3,200 hotels worldwide. The new hotel will feature the brand's Generation 5 design, offering flexible workspaces and updated aesthetics. Siliguri is a key commercial hub in West Bengal and serves as a gateway to the Eastern Himalayas and neighboring countries.
Why It's Important?
The development of the Holiday Inn Express near Bagdogra Airport is significant for IHG's expansion strategy in Eastern India, a region with growing commercial and travel importance. This project is expected to enhance the local hospitality landscape and contribute to the regional economy by attracting a diverse range of travelers. The expansion aligns with IHG's broader goal of increasing its footprint in India, where it currently operates 51 hotels across six brands and has 72 additional hotels planned for the next three to five years.
