Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI chatbot, has reported that users in Houthi-controlled northern Yemen attempted to use its AI model to develop advanced weapons, including multi-variant hypersonic missiles and warheads that maneuver mid-course
using mobile phone hardware. The company identified a cell pursuing three different weapons programs and subsequently blocked the accounts. While the users did not succeed in fielding an operational device, they did conduct a failed test of a guided rocket, returning to Claude to understand the failure.
