During the descent, Muenchrath slipped and fell over 100 feet, sustaining severe injuries including multiple fractures and gangrene. Without access to cellular or satellite phones, the couple hiked through deep snow to reach the trailhead, where Muenchrath collapsed. Five days after her fall, a man, his wife, and their baby arrived in a car. The man immediately offered assistance, reassuring Muenchrath and driving her to a nearby town for medical treatment. Despite the chaos, Muenchrath lost the man's contact information and has been unable to thank him personally.
