What's Happening?
Goodwill of the Finger Lakes is set to open a new store in East Rochester, New York, on October 10. The store, located in the former Big Lots at Country Club Plaza, will offer a wide range of gently used apparel, shoes, accessories, home décor, and housewares, along with a curated selection of new goods and seasonal items. The first 100 shoppers aged 16 and older will receive a $10 Goodwill gift card. The store aims to support various programs and services, including Goodwill Vision Services, 211/LIFE LINE, Goodwill Learning Academy, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, workforce development, and the Good Neighbor Program. Goodwill plans to hire 40 employees for this location and is currently accepting applications.
Why It's Important?
The opening of the new Goodwill store in East Rochester represents a significant expansion of sustainable retail options in the area, providing the community with opportunities to shop with purpose. The store's proceeds will support mission-driven programs and services, contributing to social welfare initiatives such as crisis lifelines and workforce development. This expansion not only creates job opportunities but also enhances community engagement through charitable activities. The store's strategic location in a high-traffic area further underscores Goodwill's commitment to accessibility and community support.
What's Next?
Following the store's opening, Goodwill will continue to accept donations daily, with regular store and donation hours set from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The organization is expected to continue its expansion efforts, having already opened new stores in Greece, Geneva, and Ithaca earlier this year. The hiring process for the East Rochester store is ongoing, providing employment opportunities for local residents. Goodwill's focus on sustainable retail and community support is likely to attract more shoppers and donors, furthering its mission in upstate New York.
