ClassNK has released the second edition of its 'Guidelines for Additional Fire-fighting Measures for Container Carrier.' These guidelines provide criteria for evaluating additional fire-fighting measures on container carriers beyond mandatory international
requirements. The updated edition reflects operational experience and the latest international developments. It aims to enhance fire safety in a practical and effective manner, allowing shipowners and operators to demonstrate compliance to external stakeholders. The revisions include the installation of fire hydrants for rapid operations on lashing bridges and video monitoring systems for early fire detection. Equipment specifications have been adjusted for cost-effectiveness, such as reducing the required number of cameras from eight to two.
