A rare EF3 tornado struck north-east Wisconsin, carving a 12-mile path of destruction through Appleton and Menasha before dissipating over Lake Winnebago. This tornado is the fourth of its strength to hit Wisconsin in 2026, marking a significant increase
in such events. Additionally, a meteotsunami occurred on Lake Winnebago, caused by air pressure disturbances associated with severe thunderstorms. Despite the extensive damage to homes and infrastructure, only a few injuries were reported, as the tornado struck during the afternoon when many people were at work.
