What's Happening?
The Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA) and the Council of Australian Tour Operators (CATO) have approved a merger, creating a single peak industry body. This decision was confirmed by member votes at recent meetings. From July 1, 2026, CATO will
become a division within ATIA, maintaining its identity and independence while benefiting from ATIA's broader resources and advocacy. The merger aims to streamline operations, reduce duplication, and enhance support for members, with CATO's events and programs continuing under the new structure.
Why It's Important?
The merger between ATIA and CATO represents a significant consolidation in the Australian travel industry, promising stronger advocacy and support for members. By combining resources, the unified body can better address industry challenges, enhance accreditation processes, and attract new talent. This move is expected to strengthen the industry's profile and improve its ability to navigate disruptions, ultimately benefiting both members and the broader travel sector.
