What's Happening?
The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) is hosting its 19th annual agriculture photo contest throughout June, inviting residents of Indiana to submit photographs that capture the essence of the state's agricultural landscape, farmers, and rural
traditions. The contest is designed to recognize the hard work and contributions of Hoosier farmers and to celebrate the beauty of Indiana's agricultural environment. Participants can submit photos in four categories: On the Farm, Faces of Agriculture, Agritourism, and Conservation. A total of ten winners will be selected, including two from each category and two overall winners. These winners will be honored at a special ceremony during the Indiana State Fair and will have their photos displayed in the offices of the Lt. Governor’s Family of Business in Indianapolis. The contest aims to showcase the diversity and richness of Indiana agriculture, as emphasized by Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith and ISDA Director Don Lamb.
Why It's Important?
This annual photo contest plays a significant role in promoting Indiana's agricultural sector by highlighting its diversity and beauty. It provides a platform for residents to engage with and appreciate the agricultural community, fostering a deeper connection between urban and rural populations. By showcasing the state's agricultural heritage, the contest helps to raise awareness about the importance of agriculture in Indiana's economy and culture. It also serves as a means to recognize and honor the contributions of farmers, who are vital to the state's food production and rural economy. The contest encourages creativity and storytelling through photography, which can lead to increased interest and support for local agriculture and agritourism, potentially boosting economic activity in these areas.
What's Next?
Participants have until June 30, 2026, to submit their entries, with winners being announced and celebrated at the Indiana State Fair. The recognition of winners at such a prominent event underscores the importance of agriculture in the state and provides an opportunity for the public to engage with the agricultural community. The display of winning photographs in the Lt. Governor’s Family of Business offices throughout the year will continue to promote Indiana's agricultural heritage and may inspire future initiatives to support and develop the sector. As the contest progresses, it may also encourage more residents to explore and participate in agritourism activities, further integrating agriculture into the cultural fabric of Indiana.
