What's Happening?
The US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) has entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with Auriga Space to develop electromagnetic-powered interceptors for counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS). The partnership
focuses on advancing the Hermes launcher, which uses electromagnetic propulsion similar to a railgun, to intercept drones at long ranges. The technology incorporates magnetic levitation to reduce wear and tear on the launcher. Auriga Space has conducted over 1,000 launches but has yet to perform live fire tests with explosive projectiles. This collaboration aims to refine the launcher’s design and operational capabilities.
