What's Happening?
The Israeli government has approved the establishment of a new program called 'Masa Diplomacy,' aimed at equipping Jewish youth in the Diaspora with the skills and knowledge necessary for Israel advocacy and public diplomacy. This initiative, proposed
by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Sa’ar, is a response to increasing antisemitism and misinformation about Israel. The program will offer participants content days on online advocacy, public speaking workshops, educational tours, and seminars led by diplomats and experts. It will also include a capstone project evaluated by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The program is set to last approximately six weeks and aims to deepen the connection between young Diaspora Jews and Israel.
Why It's Important?
The 'Masa Diplomacy' program is significant as it seeks to address the challenges posed by rising antisemitism and misinformation about Israel. By empowering young Jewish leaders in the Diaspora with advocacy skills, the program aims to strengthen Israel's global standing and counter negative narratives. This initiative highlights the strategic importance Israel places on its relationship with the Jewish Diaspora, recognizing their role in international advocacy. The program also reflects a broader effort to solidify Israel's status and influence worldwide by fostering a well-informed and engaged network of young advocates.
What's Next?
Following the successful pilot project during the 2025-2026 academic year, the 'Masa Diplomacy' program is set to become a permanent fixture. The government has allocated NIS 1 million to sponsor scholarships for approximately 70 participants in the 2026-2027 academic year. As the program rolls out, it is expected to attract more young Jewish leaders from around the world, potentially expanding its reach and impact. The initiative may also inspire similar programs aimed at strengthening ties between Israel and the global Jewish community.
