What's Happening?
Maven Clinic and Color Health have partnered to introduce a virtual oncofertility program aimed at addressing fertility preservation for cancer patients. With cancer rates rising among young adults, the program seeks to integrate fertility risk assessment
into routine cancer care, providing a 'fast track' for patients to access preservation services like egg and sperm freezing before treatment begins. This initiative addresses the gap where fewer than 50% of patients discuss fertility preservation with their oncologists. The program will initially be available through employers and health plans, offering a strategic consolidation of oncology and fertility care.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is significant as it addresses a critical gap in cancer care, where fertility preservation is often overlooked. By integrating fertility services into cancer treatment plans, the program ensures that patients have the opportunity to preserve their fertility before undergoing potentially sterilizing treatments. This not only enhances the quality of life for cancer survivors but also provides employers with a comprehensive healthcare benefit that supports employee well-being. As cancer survival rates improve, such initiatives are crucial in addressing the long-term impacts of cancer treatment on patients' lives.
