UAE telecommunications company du has announced the successful completion of a proof of concept (PoC) trial with Ericsson, utilizing millimeter-wave extended range technology to deliver 5G fixed wireless
access (FWA) in residential areas across the UAE. The trial involved the deployment of Ericsson's AIR 5343 mmWave radio solution, which, along with advanced software features, enabled high-capacity and high-performance FWA services through a 5G Standalone (SA) macro deployment architecture. The PoC achieved gigabit speeds, extended capacity for high-demand applications, improved coverage in residential neighborhoods, and facilitated a faster rollout of FWA services. Du's CEO, Fahad Al Hassawi, highlighted the trial's success in demonstrating the viability of mmWave technology for residential broadband applications and the company's ability to expand its FWA service to more households.
