What's Happening?
Kauai police have identified Bernard Matsumoto, a 70-year-old resident of Lihue, as the surfer who died after being found unresponsive in the water at Hanamaulu Beach Park. Matsumoto was discovered next to his surfboard about 25 yards offshore. Bystanders
brought him to shore and initiated CPR, but despite continued efforts by medics, he was pronounced dead at Wilcox Medical Center. An autopsy is pending, and police have stated there is no evidence of foul play.
