What's Happening?
A ship design workshop was held in Visakhapatnam, India, aimed at strengthening the country's indigenous ship design capabilities. Hosted by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), the workshop brought
together stakeholders from the Indian Navy, defense public sector undertakings (DPSUs), private shipyards, and academia. The event focused on integrating emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and green ship technologies into future ship designs. The workshop featured technical sessions and discussions on collaborative innovation and the development of a roadmap for indigenous ship design.
Why It's Important?
The workshop represents a significant step towards achieving technological self-reliance in India's maritime sector. By fostering collaboration among key stakeholders, the event aims to enhance the country's ship design capabilities, aligning with the national goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). The integration of advanced technologies into ship design could lead to more efficient and sustainable naval systems, boosting India's defense capabilities and reducing reliance on foreign technology. This initiative also has the potential to stimulate economic growth by promoting innovation and creating opportunities in the maritime industry.
