The Cross River State Government in Nigeria has announced a partnership with the Federal Government to establish the state as a major hub for livestock production and export. This initiative follows the commissioning of Nigeria's first Livestock Control
Post and Guarantee Facility at Mfum in Ikom Local Government Area. Governor Bassey Otu, represented by Deputy Governor Peter Odey, emphasized the state's commitment to becoming a key player in Nigeria's livestock value chain through investments in ranching, transportation infrastructure, and export logistics. The state is also redeveloping the Obudu Ranch into a world-class tourism and livestock destination, with a cargo airport nearing completion to facilitate international market access. The Federal Government plans to establish 12 Livestock Control Posts along Nigeria's borders to enhance disease surveillance and protect the livestock industry.
