What's Happening?
Eli and Chana Coten, a London family, have relocated to Ma'alot in northern Israel during a period of conflict, known as Operation Roaring Lion. The Cotens, along with their two daughters, moved to Israel in September 2025, seeking a new life despite
the proximity to the Lebanese border and the associated risks. The family has faced challenges such as missile threats and the need for immediate shelter during alarms. Despite these difficulties, they have found support through Israela, an organization aiding new immigrants, and have adjusted to their new environment with the help of local communities and family connections in Israel.
Why It's Important?
The Cotens' experience underscores the complexities and resilience involved in making aliyah, particularly during times of conflict. Their story highlights the broader geopolitical tensions in the region and the personal impacts on families choosing to immigrate to Israel. The support systems provided by organizations like Israela play a crucial role in helping new immigrants integrate and cope with the challenges of living in a conflict zone. This narrative also reflects the enduring appeal of aliyah for Jewish families worldwide, despite the risks, and the importance of community and familial support in such transitions.
