What's Happening?
More than 140 female airline pilots have convened in Reykjavik for the 48th Annual Conference of the International Society of Women Airline Pilots (ISA+21). This event, recognized as the largest all-female airline pilot meeting globally, aims to showcase the strength and visibility of women in the aviation industry. Founded in 1978, ISA+21 has grown from 21 members to over 900 pilots from major airlines worldwide. The organization has raised over $1.4 million in scholarships to support women pursuing advanced pilot training and type ratings, alongside mentorship and advocacy initiatives.
Why It's Important?
The conference underscores the ongoing efforts to increase gender representation in the aviation industry, where women currently account for only 5.8% of pilots worldwide. By providing scholarships and mentorship, ISA+21 plays a crucial role in encouraging more women to pursue careers in aviation, addressing gender disparities in the field. The visibility and networking opportunities offered by such events can inspire future generations of female pilots and contribute to a more diverse and inclusive industry.
