What's Happening?
Sunshine Health, a subsidiary of Centene Corporation, has announced the success of its Sunshine Health Works program, which aims to address healthcare workforce shortages in Florida. The program has trained nearly 1,900 individuals through partnerships
with local colleges and healthcare providers, offering scholarships, certifications, and employment pathways. Sunshine Health Works focuses on supporting Medicaid members and the broader community, providing technical skills and career advancement opportunities. The program offers 17 healthcare certifications and has partnered with 12 organizations across Florida, including colleges and community groups, to deliver specialized training programs.
Why It's Important?
The Sunshine Health Works program addresses critical labor shortages in Florida's healthcare system, which can limit patient access and strain healthcare providers. By creating clear pathways for individuals to enter and advance in healthcare careers, the program helps meet the growing demand for healthcare professionals. The initiative supports economic development by providing job opportunities and enhancing workforce skills. It also aligns with Sunshine Health's mission to improve lives and promote self-sufficiency among Medicaid members.
