U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) has played a key role in securing an additional $5.4 million in federal funding for the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery – North Alabama. This new allocation brings the total federal grants for the project
to $18.9 million. The funding was awarded through the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program of the National Cemetery Administration within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The project, which is nearing its groundbreaking, will establish a 150-acre cemetery near Maysville, outside Huntsville, designed to provide approximately 150,000 burial sites over a projected 200-year lifespan. This latest award builds upon an initial $13.5 million in federal funding secured earlier this year, an effort in which Representative Strong collaborated with the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA) and Governor Kay Ivey to support the state's application.

Following the groundbreaking, construction is anticipated to take approximately 16 to 18 months. The project will include traditional graves, ground crypts, columbarium niches, a scatter garden, committal facilities, and administrative space. The additional funding also includes $283,200 for the expansion of the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort, further enhancing veterans' services across the state. The successful completion of this project will fulfill a long-standing promise to North Alabama veterans and their families, providing a dignified resting place closer to home.
