What's Happening?
Kirsten Cerdenia from Burbank and Kingston McGhee from Crete-Monee represented their regions at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Both students prepared extensively, learning hundreds of words for their first national competition.
Cerdenia, a four-time district champion, successfully spelled words like 'diapason' and 'iridescent' before being eliminated in the third round. McGhee, who won his regional competition in his first year of in-person schooling, was eliminated in the first round but remains determined to compete again. The event provided both students with valuable experiences and the opportunity to meet other young spellers from across the country.
