What's Happening?
Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) has signed a contract with Primetals Technologies and Midrex Technologies to construct Kazakhstan's first hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant. The plant will utilize advanced direct reduction iron technologies, producing HBI with high
metallisation and iron content. Scheduled for commissioning in 2029, the plant aims to reduce emissions and transition to hydrogen utilization when viable.
Why It's Important?
The construction of Kazakhstan's first HBI plant represents a significant advancement in the country's metallurgy industry, potentially boosting its global market presence. By adopting environmentally friendly technologies, the plant can reduce carbon emissions, aligning with global sustainability goals. The project is expected to create over 1,000 jobs, contributing to economic development and skilled workforce growth in the region.
