The environmental nonprofit Keep Tahoe Blue has initiated the Car-Free Tahoe campaign to encourage visitors to use alternative transportation methods in the Lake Tahoe area. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and protect the natural
environment by promoting the use of free public buses, microtransit options like Lake Link, the Emerald Bay Shuttle, bicycles, e-bikes, e-scooters, and walking. The campaign is currently being piloted in South Lake Tahoe, with plans to expand to the North Shore. The area attracts nearly 15 million visitors annually, leading to significant traffic, especially during the summer.
