What's Happening?
The Junior League of Cleveland (JLC) is currently accepting applications for its Women Reclaiming Their Education scholarship program. This initiative aims to support women in Greater Cleveland whose educational journeys have been interrupted. Scholarships
of up to $5,000 are available to women across Northeast Ohio, regardless of their membership status with JLC. The application period is open until February 1, 2026, and submissions can be made online. The funds are intended to cover tuition and essential needs such as childcare, transportation, technology, or textbooks. Pamela Tyll Radišek, the scholarship chair, emphasized the program's goal to help women overcome barriers that have delayed their education. Since its inception in 2004, the JLC Scholarship Fund has assisted over 50 local women, initially focusing on nontraditional students and later expanding to include women who have aged out of foster care.
Why It's Important?
This scholarship program is significant as it addresses the educational needs of women who have faced interruptions due to life circumstances, family responsibilities, or unexpected challenges. By providing financial support, the Junior League of Cleveland is helping to remove barriers that prevent women from completing their education. This initiative not only empowers women to pursue higher education but also contributes to the broader goal of gender equality in education and the workforce. The program's expansion to include women who have aged out of foster care highlights its commitment to supporting vulnerable populations. By enabling these women to continue their education, the program can have a lasting impact on their personal and professional lives, ultimately benefiting the community as a whole.
What's Next?
Eligible applicants must identify as women, be nontraditional students or women who have aged out of foster care, and be pursuing an accredited college, technical program, or graduate degree in Ohio. Award recipients will be notified by March 1, 2026, and will receive their awards at the Junior League of Cleveland's Spring Together event on March 14, 2026.
