Maryland Pilots Receive High-Speed Launch Vessel from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding

The Association of Maryland Pilots has taken delivery of a new high-speed launch vessel from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, marking the fifth Chesapeake Class launch delivered since 2002. The vessel, named SEVERN, features a deep-V hull designed by Ray Hunt Design and is powered by twin Volvo Penta D16 diesel engines, each producing 750 Bhp. The launch can reach speeds over 27 knots and includes advanced features such as a Humphree interceptor trim control system and a Northern Lights 12 kW genset. The wheelhouse is equipped with shock-mitigating seats and heated windows, while the forecastle includes safety gear storage and HVAC systems. The vessel also has heated decks and handrails to prevent ice accumulation.
